these seemingly mundane accounts of my day mean a lot to me. because i've never been good at documenting my days!

we were at that cafe again, and the kids were there again, ordering multiple smoothies each, and not even finishing them. they have such sophisticated palettes that instead of burgers, which are also on the menu, they eat only eggs benedict for their main and chocolate banana waffles for dessert.

there was a girl with long wavy blonde hair (platinum highlights and light brown roots) and just a green/yellow/black jungle-patterned bikini on top with black pants on the bottom. she was also wearing sunglasses and had a pointy little nose with a sleek skinny face and chin.

she was in a group. they were all speaking english with heavy mediterranean accents (greek? spanish?)

we made some purple cabbage-carrot coleslaw. it was so appetizing, we ate it mouthfuls, even though it was meant to go with our tacos (we ended up postponing tacos for tomorrow)

i had cold buckwheat soba for dinner, topped w with white sesame seeds. i dipped it in a little sauce mixture i made with soy sauce, water, oyster sauce, sugar, sesame oil, and shredded nori

it was so good

the bite was pleasantly bouncy and chewy but without significant effort. it was simply divine

i have 3 more portions of this gold

watermelon for dessert

i stopped reading das parfum -- i find that book repulsive. not in a "gross" way, but morally so. i think a book that dares bear the name "literary classic" (even if just a "modern" classic) must necessarily be edifying, healing, life-enhancing, and spiritually enlightening.

it was not that

it was not even particularly well-written actually

the characters were flat

the plot wasn't advancing

the voice was weak and ordinary

i've started to read another book

know how i can tell i like it?

i'm slowing down to read it...

when people say "i liked it so much i read it in one sitting" i don't get them

why would you rush through a thing you love?

when i love a book, i slow it down so i can savour it on a sentence-level, word-choice level.

i won't say its name because i don't want to jinx my reading experience but

may i suggest that a good strategy in curating a reading list is to keep classics -- that interest you -- ready so that if you are waiting on a book from the library or waiting for books to ship to you, or just out of new books to read, you have still something to fall back on, so you don't ever have to be empty-handed

(i am testing this out lately)

also i think maybe the way for me to discover music is actually -- ooh i'm about to cringe at this word -- "travel" and go out

i don't know if i can say this is a general thing because i guess most places play disgusting annoying pop but this cafe in koufonisia is just amazing at curating playlists...

and that beach bar...the music wasn't quite pop it was maybe electronic pop but they played a song that i love so much and i've just been listening to it on repeat lately

the bar/cafes i like all have a certain energy, too... visual-aesthetically speaking. sort of airy and light

also i feel i have a very pronounced movie taste.

i don't quite know if i can define my book taste or if it is defined at all.
